Changing the lives of those who are vulnerable in Washington County, Maryland
Each day men, women, and children come to The Salvation Army located in Hagerstown looking for a helping hand and a reason to believe in a brighter future.
The Salvation Army has developed comprehensive programs, like Bed & Bread Club, to help our homeless and hungry. We provide shelter to women and children in need, food assistance through our weekday MANNA Feeding Program including our soup kitchen, and food pantry, as well as The Federal Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) through The Maryland Food Bank. All of these programs help to ensure that our hungry neighbors will not go without. Additional avenues of support include financial assistance for essential expenses including electric, water, sewer, heating cost (gas, oil, propane...), clothing vouchers, and holiday assistance through The Angel Tree Program.
Each day, children of all ages including teens come through the doors of The Salvation Army's Shifler Family Community Center. Some need a safe place to play after school. Some need a nourishing meal or help with their homework. Others just want to have a conversation with someone willing to listen. No matter the need, we believe every child deserves love, care, and compassion. The Army provides educational, athletic, and youth ministry programs all created to benefit each child's need.
Motivated by the love of God, as a leader in Christian faith-based human services, The Salvation Army is committed to serving individuals and families with integrity and respect, using creative solutions to positively transform their lives.
The Salvation Army is committed to serving whomever, wherever, and whenever the need exists. We understand the importance of preparing for the unexpected and when an emergency strikes, we will be here to help.
